I'm wondering if in ffmpegX, there is an option to encode a xvid using BVOP, or bidirectionally predicted frames. Someone on the PC side suggested using this option to get a better quality xvid video.

Also, is it possible for xvids made on a Mac to look as good as xvids that are made on PC's? And is there some helpful tutorial or place I can read up on how to get the best quality possible? Sorry if I'm rambling....

Sorry to bump my own topic, but I'm really hoping for an answer, at least about the BVOP question. I make videos along with a PC user and his xvids look a bit better than the ones I make. I'm hoping there is something more I can do to get the most out of my system.

A big thanks to anyone who can answer.

If you set the option "Use B-frames", then ffmpegX will use bi-directionally predicted frames, but no more than 1 between P frames (I-B-P-B-P…). I think the XviD specs allows for more (2 has been mentioned as optimal) (I-B-B-P-B-B-P…), although hardware compatibility might be bad if you do.
