Just about any cheap dvd player that is sold at Wal-Mart will fit the bill for you. Most, if not all, new dvd players play DVD+-R/RW. Also, most players have some sort of hack to make them region free.

I have a cheapo $39.99 Apex player that I bought from Sears... it does all of this... and more!

    One-Year Replacement Plan $9.99

since you are are looking for high quality and not something made to last 6 to 8 months avoid Philips

Go & get a cheapo DVD recorder from Wal-Mart, don't waste money on high priced DVD player. Cheapo DVD recorders are sometimes cheaper than name brand DVD players, and provide you with recording capability, simple editing capability, region free, Divx play back etc. in addition to the standard DVD play back.

I am confident to say a lot of cheapo DVD players last longer than Philips DVD players and Philips DVD recorders.

Well, i have to go for both options,
I have bought 3 Cyberhomes for as cheap as $25.00 with rebate for the kids as they like to watch alot of my import dvd's,
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6100961&type=product&id=1069297420815
And 2 years later the first one is still working perfect,

And i have also bought a Pioneer DV578AS MULTI ZONE for $93.00,
which is higher end than the Cyberhome & it also plays more formats,
SACD, DVD-Audio, MP3, WMA & all dvdr formats, progessive scan, all the connections you will ever need....

So it just depends on what you want it to all do.
