encoded dvd pauses every few seconds

i encoded a dvd from a video_ts folder as usual, set the 3:2 option, and the resultant dvd plays fine in apple's dvd player and vlc, but pauses every few seconds in my home player. i noticed before trying a second time that in the info window for the source, it mentioned 3:2 so i deselected the "set 3:2" option. the resulting encoded dvd had the same problem-apple dvd player and vlc-fine, home player, pauses every few seconds for about a second.

any words of wisdom for an idiot?

What media are you using? i.e. what brand?

Is the +R or -R (whichever it is) a valid format for your player?

What bitrate did you encode at? Some players can't handle too high a bitrate, even though it's within DVD spec...

What make & model is your DVD player?

the media is sony dvd-r which i have successfully used before to encode a backup.

the bitrate is the default 4000 kbps.

the default framerate was NTSC FILM -is that correct? anyway, i left it at that.

one time, i tried it with the set 3:2 option checked, one time without.
both times produced the same result of stuttering video playback.

i'm trying it now with the Undo 3:2 option checked to see what that will do.

oh yeah, the dvd player is a Toshiba SD-Y300.

any ideas?

My guess would be that you've got a few bad discs in that batch. It happens.

I couldn't find that exact Toshiba player in the database, but since Toshiba's are notorious for often playing burned DVDRs very badly or not at all, I'd be more inclined to blame the player. I'd suggest trying those problem DVDRs in a friend's player to confirm there's something wrong with the player, or with the burned DVDR.

hey folks, thanks for the advice. tried it, but same results. i then tried encoding using the NTSC framerate (29.97). that gave me perfect video, but now the audio starts in the same place, but progressively gets more and more out of sync.

oh well, i'll keep tinkering and maybe i'll get it figured out. i'm sure the software is not to blame-just user inadequacy.

That's a common problem. Try an all forum search for something like "audio synch progressively gradually" or words to that effect, and in differing combinations.

I'm not aware of any "stickies" that refer to this.
