If you have 9gb's worth of avi's, then when encoded, you are gonna have a MASSIVE amount of mpeg2 files. No need to really know the running time of these files if they total 9gb, just that you will need a fair amount of discs. Start off with the guides on the left to help you get started but just a tip; make sure you got enough hard disc space because boy are you gonna need it!!!! Always post again if you are having problems. Good Luck.

This is IMO but i try to stick to approx 120 mins max per DVD to keep as much quality as possible. Other people will go less, some slightly more. Based on that you still looking at 7ish discs. It is possible to get multiple titles on one DVD but again try to stick to a total of 120mins for that disc.

First think you need to do is encode each avi to mpeg2 format. Once that is done then you need to author your file to create the required TS structure for playback. If you're after a one click solution then consider D.I.K.O as an option; there is a freeware version. There are loads more encoders and that is down to individual preference.

Basic Avi to DVD guides and newbie conversion guides are here:

Do read as much of the guides as you can to help you better understand the principles of what you are doing.

    http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm might assist.

DivxToDVD is my one-click application of choice.
    If in doubt, Google it.
