Trying to figure out how to pull a recorded program from a Dish Network DVR-522 to my PC. Would like to avoid the Digital/Analog/Digital path if at all possible. Someone else mentioned that the hard drive is Linux based and it *may* be possible to take the drive and mount it on a Linux PC. I'm 100% Windows based as far as editing software and authoring so I'm not sure that will be possible. Any suggestions?

  2. Have you searched on the net .. linux drives can be accessed by windows using something like norton disk doctor or maybe partition magic. Linux is pretty easy to install and run as a dual boot system with windows...

  3. Believe me that it is alot of trouble and may void your warranty. You have to take the hd out and hook it to your computer. Also if you corrupt your hd, you would have major headaches; as you just can't erase and reformat the dish drive. And on top of that, the results aren't as good as using a set top recorder. Get a good recorder (pioneer 220s), use the s-video or rca plugs, record to dvd-rw and customize on your computer. I speak from personal experience.

If you still want to, the link provided by MozartMan will have everything you need to know about extracting the video. You've been warned.
