Ok I read almost all form and I just don't get some of this stuff i have some mpeg videos and wold like to put them on dvd+r, now i know there are guides but for some reason i can't find a secific guide to help me. I want to put as much as I can on a single dvd+r. Here is the break down of all the software I have that multi guides suggest; virtualdup, avicodec, ifoedit, virtualdubmod, and tmpgenc (my mpeg-2 trail expired I was trying to figure this out but no dice), and Nero 5 but no nerovision tool. I know I'm a newbie but I really would like to learn this stuff thanks. Thanks in advance and feel free to laugh at my newbieness. I know I do.

Hi, memnock. Look at the guides on the left side of the page for many instructions on what to do. Until you get up to speed, look for the last FREE version of VSO DivxToDVD (v0.52?). It'll make you productive almost immediately.

That really depends on the quality you expect, I did an experiment and was able to get about 20 hours on a single 4.7 GB DVD but I wouldn't reccomend it.

The amount of video in time length you get on a DVD is determined by what the bitrate is. If you lower the bitrate you can get more on disc, BUT this also lowers the quality of the video.

If you want to get the maximum amount of video on a single DVD and still maintain a decent quality to the video I'd suggest using the VCD spec which is DVD compliant (except the audio...) Try this link for using TMPGenc: http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/convert/tmpgenc/tmpgenc.htm

The VCD part is at the bottom, you need to use 48khz for DVD though.

Yes. Use an authoring tool that supports multiple files (I'm surprised Nero doesn't, or maybe it's just the driver). TMPGEnc DVD Author (30 day fully functional free trial) is my favorite but there's also freeware alternatives - check out the tools section.

I would look at no more than about 4 hours to a single layer disc, or 8 to a dual layer disc. Others will have lower ( higher? ) quality thresholds than that. OTOH VCD quality might be the best you can do for these clips, so we're talking 7-8 hours on a single layer disc then. A lot depends on the source, and whether the results are acceptable to you. After all, we're not watching your DVDs

http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm might assist you with the encoding process, making sure you select the right bitrates and frame sizes for your sources.
    If in doubt, Google it.
