Actually here is the dallas area the memorex 16x dvd-r disc is $9.99 for 25, I just bought 2 packs for 20 bucks and they work great in the Pioneer dvr-109, I have burnt about 10 disc at 16x and all have worked great.

I am going back to Bestbuy today or tomorrow to get at least 2 more packs.

Sorry for the mental brain spasm in the title. It is $9.99 here and I stocked up 200 total myself... All the cash I had in my pocket. It isn't as cheap a price as those Staples discs I stocked up on a while ago. They were around $9 for 50 as I recall it and the 8X marked burned at 12X so I was happy. I believe this to be a good price for 16X media so....

BTW what firmware are you running? I Just tried the upgrade to 1.57 and the +R still only show at up to 12X. And I have to ask myself why the quick change from 1.55 to 1.57 from pioneer.

Not surprising.

The DVR-x09 supports only SONY, Taiyo-Yuden, TDK, Maxell and Verbatim MCC for 16X DVD+R burns.

FWIW, I ONLY use Verbatim MCC.

And I have to ask myself why the quick change from 1.55 to 1.57 from pioneer.

The problem with the Sams Club deal is you have to add in the annual fee that they get you with and you can usually find the same product elsewere for the same price or even cheaper.

Today I will be stopping and buying 2 more packs of the memorex 16x.

i didn't have great luck with memorex, what are these CMC's? i had to burn all mine at 2.4 just to get smooth playback, might be mt players fault also but my fuji's burn up nicely at 8x

FWIW, my Sam's club annual fee gets paid through work.

The thing about Sam's Club (like CostCo, etc.) is that the prices are consistently low. Sure, I might be able to find prices cheaper elsewhere, but it might be only during a special sale, or I might have to deal with shipping charges. It isn't worth it for me to dig through newspaper advertisements, or deal with rebates, when I might save $5 or $10.00.

With Sam's club, I drive 5 minutes down the street, walk in and out of there with what I want at a good price anytime it's open.

Could be your drive? I just burned some today and played them back (I'm off fridays and work saturday instead), They played fine after being burned at 16X on a Pioneer 109(509). I had in the past good burns on the 4X Sony DRU-500A and DRU-510A with CMC and even Princo. I Do believe that the drive can affect burns.

I've been burning 8X Staples at 12X in the Pioneer whereas at work I have to burn them at 4X to get a good burn. That one's a BTC as I remember it.
