  1. Hello,

My Win XP SP2 is not recognizing my Sony DV cam connected through a Texas Instruments Firewire card - and I know it is caused by the XP SP2 Firewire drivers. However, whatever I try to do to revert back to XP SP1 drivers it won't let me. I was wondering if anyone else has managed to force these drivers back?

    What I have tried:

    > Copied the files 1394bus.sys, arp1394.sys, ohci1394.sys to WINDOWS\System32\Drivers (but they automatically get replaced by SP2 versions of course)

    > Deleted all instances of the above files in DLL and Driver Cache folders and repeated the action (still same problem)

    > Disabled System Restore and repeated the above action (no use)

    > Disabled Windows File Protection (as following article describes: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Tweaking-XP-Windows-File-Protection-SP2.html) - still same problem

    > Renamed SP2.CAB, deleted all references of the above files on the entire harddisk before copying in the SP1 versions - but STILL Windows manages to replace the old files.

I really need to get my DV cam hooked up, can someone please help me fight Windows?

    Many Thanks

  3. My camera is a Sony TRV33-E

(apologies for posting a topic which have been covered by previous posts, but there must be a solution for this rather than installing Windows XP SP1 permanently?)

    A couple of reasons:

    1. Pre SP2 I had no problems capturing (using WinDV).

    2. I managed to fix this problems in December 2004 reverting to SP1 drivers

I have unfortunately reinstalled windows from scratch earlier this year and I'm not sure if there are some new security hotfixes that are preventing me from reverting to SP1 drivers this time. As soon as I replace/delete the files and refresh my view in Windows Explorer I can see Windows replacing the files again, argh - frustrating.

Helped my problems - not sure what I did too differently from before, but in addition to MSDV.sys I redid all the 1394 sysfiles mentioned above in my post (in Windows Safe mode).

3 hours it took me but it is finnnallllyyy working! Thanks for your replies!
