I just want to validate what I think I learned from my searching . . .

Is the only way to transfer or play digital 8mm through a Digital8 camcorder?

I, unfortunately, have a MiniDV camcorder and one 8mm tape I'd like to get into my computer. From searching, it seems as though I won't be able to do anything with my current tools- correct?

Any alternatives to borrowing or buying a digital8 camera to get to the 8mm footage?

    thanks guys (& gals)

Is this an analog 8mm tape or a Digital8 tape?

Analog 8mm can be played on a standard 8mm camcorder into your MiniDV camcorder to tape or to IEEE-1394 if your MiniDV camcorder supports "analog-pass-through".

Or you could borrow a Digital8 camcorder and dub the tape to your computer or MiniDV camcorder through IEEE-1394. The Digital8 camcorder must support playing analog tapes. Some cheap models don't.

Yes, borrow the digital-8 camcorder. That's the easiest solution to the problem.
