Hi everydody, I am new one here.
I have got problem with recording from PC to camcoder using IEEE1394.
Camera works perfectly when dowloading from it to PC but problem occurs when I want to save edited clip back on the tape. It does not matter what software I use. I tried Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, Video Wave 5.0, Vegas Video Edit 4.0... Everytime everything worked OK (camera responded to commands applied through software) except there was nothing on a tepe or the picture was corrupted.
Please see what happens when I plug in the camera:

Fig A - just after switching camera ON (DV IN)
Fig B - previewing on DV device from PC
Fig C - recording on DV device form PC ("export to tape" etc.)
Fig D - camera unplaged and this is what was recorded on a tape
If anybody has any idea about it please help me.
    Marcin

I've seen this affect but never from a DV in source, only from a poor quality analogue source. I notice that both of you are using Asus motherboards and at least one of them has onboard Firewire. Could it possibly be a problem with the onboard firewire chipset? Have either of you tried disabling the onboard Firewire and using a plug in PCI Firewire card instead?

Thanks a lot Richard!!! Never thought it could be my motherboard that caused the problem, but after your little observation I searched for known Firewire issues for A78NX. This is what I finally found:
"This board has 2 IEEE-1394 headers & comes with a PCI Bracket. The drivers are included in the nForce Drivers so no extra install necessary.

There's only one device known to have problems on this board.

    1. SONY PC 101 DV IN/OUT

The problem is present only in one direction. When acquiring from the camera, everything is fine. When uploading, image is often incomplete, visual bugs are present, etc. A Beta patch has been released HERE (ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/CHIPSATZ/NVIDIA/1394_filter.zip).

Haven't tried it yet, but I assume this will fix the problem for both of us

I've had my fair share of FireWire problems where connecting camcorders to PCs are concerned and I've observed this much: whether built-in onto the motherboard or as a PCI card, Texas Instruments chipsets seem to work best. There are FireWire chipsets from Adaptec, HiPoint, VIA, etc, but I can't predict when they'll work as expected with the same level of reliability as a TI chipset-based FireWire interface.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

Glad to be able to help. There had to be something common when two people are suffering exactly the same problem, it was just a case of looking for the common item.

and for those that don't bother, now do you see why it is useful to fill in your computer details? It isn't just there so some can brag about what they've got (mines faster than yours, etc).

    Hi,
I haven't been here for a long time and I see that there has been some interest in the topic.
I installed the patch and must say it works perfectly. Now I may use my camcoder as pass-through device both ways... from and to VCR.
Thank you all for help and interest.
