Hi everyone. I just experienced DivxtoDVD today in converting my mpeg to dvd format. A few questions I am confused on. I tried burning two mpegs (one 2Pac and one Usher)
Using DivxtoDVD software, Once I have 2 of my mpegs converted, it gives the following list in a folder:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_0.VOB
Now comes the stupid questions (sorry) -
1) whats the difference between the VIDEO files and the VTS files? (how come I have 9 total files for 2 mpegs?)
2) When I insert them in NERO under the DVD-Video, is there a particular order I have to insert them in?
3) Do I only need to include the VTS files in NERO to burn or do I need both the VTS and VIDEO files?
DivxtoDVD kinda just converts and burns it for you, so that I did NOT have a preference on the ordering!
This is why I want to use Nero to customize my list. But this is different than the easy mp3 list I am used to where each song only has one file. (and you can drag and pick a customized list)
Now I have 9 files for 2 mpegs. How do I know which order (and if messing up the order will mess it up)
What if I order it this way on NERO?
VTS_02_0.IFO
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
etc...
In a sense, mix the 1's and 2's and mix the "VTS" with "VIDEO". If someone can explain what they mean in "newbie" english, I will be grateful. How do I determine if 2Pac video goes first or if the Usher video goes first?

Use TMPGENC DVD Author and you can create a menu where you can choose the order and label the files.

What you have is a DVD video structure containing two titlesets (you must have included 2 video clips). If you look at a commercial DVD you will see the same structure, although the number of files will probably be bigger.
The order is irrelevent, as the file names determine the order when the DVD plays. All you have to do is drag the contents of the Video_TS folder on your HDD to the Video_TS folder that Nero creates when you select DVD Video for burning.
In a nutshell, the .IFO file contains information about the disk - aspect ratio, number of titles, languages etc. The .BUP file is a backup of the .IFO file, in case of corruption. The .VOB (Video OBject) files contain everything else - video, audio tracks, subtitles etc.
The video_TS files decsribe the disk itself, and have the main menus in them. The VTS files are specific to each titleset (different titlesets may have different aspect ratios or language options)Read my blog here.

Guns1inger,
If the order I burn them in is irrelevant, are you saying that I cannot choose which video I want to go first (in Nero?) If I randomly order it how does Nero determine which one is which? I cant tell if VTS 1 = tupac or usher, etc
So let's just say I want to burn tupac as the first video and usher as the second video, how do I make that determination (in Nero) when "adding" my 9 files?
Sorry for the lack of understanding. This is first time using this stuff so I dont understand all the jargon yet. -
They will be in the order that you loaded them into DivxtoDVD. You can use TDA and thr Add Movie (or Add Video or something) button to change the order to one that suits you, but once you author, the order is fixed unless you author again. DivxtoDVD is a very simple authoring tool. It converts video and create a simple DVD structure. Load the files into DivxtoDVD in the correct order, and that is how it will playback once burned.

Unless of course, there is a way for DivxtoDVD to let you pick which order to burn it...which I dont recall if it does.
Is there an option where I can just convert the mpeg to ifo,bup and vob using DivxtoDVD without having the software automatically ask me to burn it too? Sometimes I may just want to convert all of my 100 or so mpegs to the above format and dump them into a folder. Then when I have time, maybe I can use Nero to pick and choose which ones I want to "add" to my list.....whcih I need help on. How do I determine in Nero, what goes first, second, third, etc?
For example lets say 01 = tupac , 02 = usher and 03 = mariah carey. I want to burn it in that order. Someone said order is irrelevant.
So for example, if I have this order in Nero:
VTS_02_0.IFO
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.VOB
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_03_0.IFO
does it mean it will burn 02 (usher) first then 03 (mariah carey) and 01 (tuapc) last? Please someone educate me on how to customize my list. I'm not sure I know how to do this. I just want to stick with dvixtoDVD and Nero.
Thanks to everyone who has attempted to help me. Its been a great struggle, even afterspending hours reading this stuff online. =) -
You can only set the order by loading the files into DivxtoDVD in the order you want them. This can be done by using the ctrl key when selecting the files to burn. As for where they went - I don't know as I have never had DivxtoDVD burn them for me. I always test them first from the HDD.
You cannot alter the order of playback once authored just be changing the order of the files. The structure has been determined by the authoring software. You can only change it by reauthoring. TDA is probably the easiest tool to use to do this. This will produce a new structure that represents the order you want.Read my blog here.

The two mpegs are about 50 mb each. When I finished using DivxtoDVD, it turned out to be about 250mb. Of course, I did not know that until AFTER it started burning it for my on my dvd-r. How do I determine how many I can fit on a dvd-r? It's not really like Nero where you can see the bar at the bottom of the screen to see how much you have left.
Can anyone tell me how to see how many mob, ifo, bup files u can fit? It sorta just converts and burns for u. -
ok nevermind, you cannot use Nero to burn it cuz all the files will have the same name. They are all a VTS_01.ifo bup of vob. It wont let you add different files since they all have the same name using Nero Burning ROM.
What are my easiest options? When I say easiest, I mean for a newbie that doesnt understand all the technical jargon behind things -
Here is my problem!!! DivxtoDVD doesnt give you a capacity limit, you dont really know how big the output is gonna be. So I had 10 mpgs I converted. I used DivxtoDVD to encode them all separately (each has its own folder)
So after the vob, ifo, bup files are done and in their respective folders, I open up Nero Express, and drag and drop. This is where the problem comes in. It doesnt regognize the files and says there are conflict of titles. Each folder (out of a total of 10) have "VTS_01.vob" I guess DivxtoDVD just autmoatically names them the same thing when it encodes. You cannot change the name, somehow that is just how DivxtoDVD encodes it.
Yes, I can select all 10, or in fact all 150 mpgs that I have and do them all at once. But I cannot guess what the output will be. Once you do them together, the resulting files will all be dumped in a folder. I am limited to a 4.7 gig on a dvd-r. This is where my dilemna is. I dont know how I can break it out....how do people using DivxtoDVD get past this?
Even in TMPEGNC, it asks if you want to encode tehm separately or together. I think if you do separately, they will all have the same VTS_01_01.ifo
VTS_01_01.bup
VTS_01_01.vob
files
