TMPGEnc versus TMPGEnc DVD Author

whats the diff between the two? Can I use TDA to convert my 100 mpg's to dvd format and create menus and then burn them?? or do I have to use TMPGEnc first?

In TDA, it says I can "add file" but it gives me a weird error on GOP or invalid header or something that I cannot ignore. Why would it allow me to add a mpg ??? does it convert?
