  1. Looking to purchase the ADVC-110. It'll be daisy chained to an external firewire HD enclosure. Enclosure has an AC adapter and a 2x 6-pin connectors. Other 6-pin connector is attached to my Mac mini. ( 4-pin adapter ) Since the enclosure is powered I'm guessing I don't need the power adapter for the 110?

From Canopus, "ADVC110 does not require a power supply when used with a 6-pin FireWire cable."

As long as you have a six pin cable back to your computer, the six pin Firewire should transmit the power to the ADVC. But you are asking if your external box can supply power to the ADVC? It should. But only if the power pins on the six pin are hooked up.

Sorry to give a confusing answer, but since I don't know the specifics of your external unit, I can't be sure the power is there. The easy solution is to try it. If it doesn't supply the power, then you may need the external supply.

    Bottom line is try it.

If it just sits there and doesn't light up, then you need the external power supply.

I don't know of a requirement that the 5-6 pins must be powered or by how much power. My ADVC-100 runs warm to the touch. The power supply lists 5V @2.5 A or 12.5 Watt and is somewhat warm to the touch. That is a hefty amount of power to ask from a hub. According to this Maxtor PDF

    http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_us/documentation/white_papers_technical/hdd_con...hite_paper.pdf

a HDD uses less power (all voltages) than the ADVC-110 uses just for 5 VDC. I think you should buy a power supply.
