Trouble with a DVD+R

I got a DVD+R of a video from a friend, but I can't read it on my NEC burner, which is supposed to handle almost anything. (I usually burn DVD-R's). Windows thinks there is no disk in the drive.

I fired up Nero, and asked for Disc Info. It showed this:

Then I tried to copy it to an image file. I got the following messages:

Can only copy first data track to a DVD
Creating the image for burning
Error reading data
Burn process failed

Finally, I tried copying the tracks one by one with Nero. It didn't seem to do anything when I tried track one. When I copied track two, I got a progress bar for about a minute. While it was working, I saw a growing image file on the disk. Then it stopped, and the image file disappeared (Nero erased it). I think the same thing happened with the first track, but it happened too quickly. No error messages.

Do you thing something is wrong with the disc, or is there another tool that would be useful to copy the data? I was hoping to burn a DVD-R with the data.

Was it made on a DVD recorder?
If so, may not be finalized.

Thanks, I'll give isobuster a shot. It was a copy of a VHS tape, so he might have used a DVD-Recorder, I'll ask. Is there a tool that will just finalize it without adding another session and making the movie unreadable?

Not really, no.
Take it back to him and have him finalize it.

DVD Recorder recorded discs usually will only play in the recorder that made them unless they are finalized. Not finalizing basically allows you to to go back and record multiple sessions till it it full. At which point you usually finalize if you want to view it with another player.
