I' m having two problems. I have this movie converted from avi to dvd with cucusoft. When i take a look at it with nero show time it looks great. But when i want to burn it with nero and ik take a look at the preview it is stuttering. I've tried to burn it to dvd, but on dvd its the same. My second problem is getting a movie subtitled. The movie is split in 4 parts, i can't get it done with virtual dub. He doen't recognize the files. Can anyone help me because i'm getting a bit desperate. Thanks.

VDub recognizes most AVI formats, provided you have the codec. What does GSpot say about the AVIs?

I don't have gspot, but in properties of the avi's stands Videoclip. When converted to dvd with cucusoft it's called mpeg movie. Playing in showtime looks fine, but then when burning it, it goes wrong. Vdub recognized the avi's because i used it with subtiteling. Thanks for your reaction and hoping you can help me.

Well, then GET GSpot then. ""Video Clip" is about as general as it gets, like "liquid" for anything that's between gas and solid. Is it wine? Is it petrol? is it sewage?

    Also,
Vdub recognized the avi's because i used it with subtiteling.
    and
i can't get it done with virtual dub. He doen't recognize the files
seems like a contradiction to me.
Best way to get help is to state as detailed as you can what you start with (your source files) and what you'd like to end up with.

There's no contradiction because in my first post i talked about two problems, that is 2 different movies. I will try to be more specific. The first movie i have 2 avi's. I've managed to subtitle this movie. These avi's he calls videoclip with xvid as videocompression. I've converted these two files with cucusoft to a mpeg movie. When using nero to burn it gets to big. First i let nero compress, the movie stutters in preview. Then i've tried one part of the movie so it wouldn't get to big, but then also it stutters. But just watching the movie with showtime, there is no problem. The second problem is with another movie, it has 4 parts and called dvd movie. I want to subtitle it, but that doesn't work because the files don't open in vdub. I've tried to put them together and then subtitle, but putting them together with Womble doesn't work. I hope its more understandable now. Thanks for your help.

Problem 1: From what you described, the problem lies in letting Nero do the compression. Create a proper mpeg yourself, and Nero won't mess it up. There are plenty of guides on how to section, it would benefit you greatly to try a few and then ask more specific questions on the problems that you experience.

Problem 2: You haven't stated what type of files these are. "DVD movie" is not a file type.

Isolate each step of the process, and then troubleshoot each step one by one. It will be much easier to identify where you're going wrong.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I've used avicodec to get some information, this is about the movie that stutters after burning using nero
    File : 2.43 Gb (0.0 b), duur 2:08:10, type MPG, 0 audio spoor(sporen), kwaliteit 88 %
    Video : 3.44 Gb, 8300 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 720*480 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), supported.

The next info is about the second movie with no subtitle.
    File : 1014 Mb (0.0 b), duur 0:00:00, type MPG, 1 audio spoor(sporen), kwaliteit 98 %
    Video : 0.0 b, 9000 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 720*480 (2.21:1), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), supported
    Audio : 0.0 b, 224 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 kan., 0x2000 = AC3 DVM [0x80], supported
This is only from one file, in total there are four files.
    Thanks for reacting

Both seems to be DVD compliant already. (NTSC DVD specs mpg). Author as NTSC DVD with for example TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Adding subtitles to a DVD does not require reencoding, as the subs are in a separate stream.
Unfortunately TDA doesn't support subs, but DVD-Lab Pro do.

The movie is NTSC, but in Holland we use PAL. Is it possible that this has something to do with it? Everywhere they say that it is better not to change the movie from NTSC to PAL because this might have influence on the quality of the movie. Therefore i didn't changed it. Or is it possible that it has something to do with Nero, because the preview looks perfect but after burning the DVD the movie is stuttering.

IMO, nero is a piece of junk for other stuff than writing things (preformatted) to disc.
And you're correct - In PAL countries, it's best to keep NTSC sources NTSC "all the way", since:
    A) Format conversion is tedious
    B) If you don't have to reencoode - Don't.
    C) Most PAL TV/DVD players handles NTSC material fine.
Author with a "real" authoring app like TDA or DVDAuthorGUI (the latter is free, and support .srt subs)
