    Hi !

I need some help. I working with a video projekt in wich I manipulate stillpictures from cartoon movies like bugs bunny.

I ripped a dvd using dvd backup, and then I transfrom the mpg-movie to quicktime movie using MPG streamclip. I got an uncopressed fcp movie upper filed.

When I work with my stillpictures in photoshop , evrething looks nice and perfect in the computer monitor. But when I transform the stills to movie again in After Effects, the result is pretty bad, specially in the computer monitior. In the scenes where the "camara" moves , the picture "jumps" a lot.
I had the problem even in the tv monitor but I fixed when i render my movie with lower field order. It looks perfect in tv. But in the computer monitor I still have the problen. I already tarnsformed the movie with field renders off and nothing happens.... Any suggestions please???

something I realize is that in the mpg streamclip is not really possible to make a progressive clip, even if you have that option. You can not really disable the field order option... Do you know any program for macintosh, that can really make a progressive mov from mpg???.......

    thank you so much

  2. What size are the Photoshop images? Perhaps you're saving them at too high a resolution and your processor is stalling during the pans. If you'e not zooming in during the After Effects animation, you only need a 72 DPI image from Photoshop.

iPhoto 5 Ken Burns effect does a great job at this, by the way, as long as there are only two positions required—a start point and an end. If you need multiple moves within a frame, AE is the obvious choise; although Photo To Movie and Still Time also give high quality results.

  3. If you want to save still pictures, you will have to deinterlace the video as you have discovered. MPEG Streamclip is not going to do this. You might want to try Cinematize, which includes a built-in deinterlacer.

There is also a lousy deinterlacer filter in Final Cut, and there are some other freeware ones floating around (e.g. for Virtual Dub). Using these free tools will unfortunately require messing around to get the video into a form they can recognize.
