I ordered Taiyo yuden 8x 50 pack HQ TYG02 8X DVD-R Silver Shiny (GDR-47GK-5008). When I go to check it with nero it shows MUST 003. Why is that?

HQ media is not made by Taiyo Yuden, and never has been. Apparently whoever manufactures those discs stopped using the TYG02 media code and switched to their own (correct) media code, MUST 003. If you wanted genuine Taiyo Yuden 8x -R, you should have ordered these: http://www.meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-8x-dvd-r-silver-thermal.html

Notice, they specifically mention the discs are manufactured by Taiyo Yuden and are made in Japan.

I never paid close enough attention when I ordered I guess. When I ordered I went to dvd media and picked taiyo yuden as what I wanted and it took me to the ty page of dvd-r. I choose the one I wanted and it had the taiyo yuden name on it when I ordered.

The particular web page you ordered from was discussed earlier on this forum. The page is a case of VERY deceptive advertising. You saw the words "Taiyo Yuden" and you also maneuvered there by following the link that was (obviously) supposed to direct you to Taiyo Yuden media. However, what you actually ordered was "High Quality" media -- that's right, the branded name is actually "High Quality." The discs are NOT actually manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. They are instead made by someone else, and, according to a spokesperson from Meritline, they are "manufactured according to the standard of Taiyo Yuden."

Here is a link to the discussion which should enlighten you as to this nonsense.

I would pick up the phone, and complain, and complain FIRMLY. Make it clear that you mrely followed the links, which clearly specified Taiyo Yuden. Make it clear that you saw the words "Taiyo Yuden," and were therefore reassured that these discs were in fact being manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. Make it clear that you saw the words "High Quality" and merely believed that those two words were adjectives, as anyone unfamiliar with the branded name would logically assume. Make it clear that you want your money back, in full, and that if you are not satisfied, you intend to pursue them with the attorney general of your state, and that you are also very willing to take this matter up in small claims court (you will win, if you decide to do this, this one is a slam dunk, if you brink in all of the evidence and printouts of all of the pages, including the one with the link you followed.) Be polite. Explain this, matter of factly. Urge them to remove this deceptive page from their website, and to re-do it so it is not deceptive. Make it clear that it is destroying Meritline's reputation.

Of note: the HQ media pages no longer mention anything TY related.

I would call and complain too. I would give them hell for their deceptive placement of HQ media with other legit TY media, as well as the mention of TY codes that were obviously fake. I'd light into them for carrying fake crap too.

Meritline is generally a good store, but they need to be made fully aware of customer unhappiness at what they did for a couple of months there.

Get yourself a refund and buy some good media instead. Meritline has other good media. And there are a few other stores too (supermediastore.com, rima.com) that are firmly anti-fakes right now and have good pricing on media.

  8. thanks for bringing this to my attention.
I did buy from meritline a few times in past ... but from NOW on I will not buy from them.
With all the attention to FAKE disks ... I was surprised to hear that Meritline would do this dis-ceptive practice!
    Shame on them!

What the hell does "MUST" stand for? For what company is it an abbreviation or acronym?
I always thought "must" was a multi-purpose English word, mostly a verb or adverb. Either that or a type of mold or mildew.

Not the worst disc you can find, but about on par with CMC or PRINCO.
