  1. Hi, I am totally lost here. Please help.

I have an xvid movie (more than one) that is 608x256 (not 16:9)

I want to encode the video file from xvid to mv2 keeping the aspect ratio intact but so I can span (anamorphically) on my widescreen TV.

Basically, I want to not loose any of the movie and just have some extra black bars on the top and bottom.

I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I can easily do it with a 4:3 ratio but I want 16:9.

    Thanks in advance

There is a handy utility called FitCD that will give you the proper resize values. You can use the script it creates or just plug in the resolution manually using TMPGEnc Xpress (which I assume works more-or-less the same as the "regular" non Xpress version).

TMPGEnc DVD Author is just a DVD authoring program. With the optional AC-3 plug-in it does have the ability to convert your audio to AC-3 if it is something else (I think it works if the audio is MP2 or PCM WAV) but it is NOT an encoder application. It does no encoding of the video. You need to do that beforehand.

Thus you need to use something like TMPGEnc Plus or TMPGEnc Xpress or Cinema Craft Encoder or Mainconcepts MPEG encoder etc.

Another option might be DIKO which is supposed to be an "all-in-one" solution for DivX/XviD AVI to DVD but I've never really used it.

Here is a recent guide on using DIKO though ---> CLICK HERE

I mention DIKO because I read that guide recently and it seems easy to use for a newbie PLUS I believe it is a freeware program.

  5. No, I was wondering if I encode the mv2 into a DVD using TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR if it will switch it to a 4:3

That is what it seems to be doing right now

    Thanks

TMGPEnc DVD Author does no re-encoding of video files.

The MENU in TMPGEnc DVD Author is always 4:3 but it will properly handle a 16x9 video file. It has not the ability to format 4:3 as 16x9 or vice versa. It does however read the header of the video file. The header can be wrong but that is not the fault of TMPGEnc DVD Author but your fault for flagging the video file incorrectly (for instance flagging a 16x9 video as 4:3 or vice versa).
