    The Mac and PC version of this hardware have the same model number yet are sold separately on plextor.com for different prices. Are they in fact identical hardware? Is the software easy to get if you get the PC version but have a Mac?

    Ah, I see it's identical but the Mac version comes with a license key to activate Elgato software.

    they're probaby the same with the only exception that Mac users get proper software with it.

    PC users get crap and have to look for 3rd party software.
