I have been troubleshooting for days on this at work and must come up with a solution soon, any help would be much appreciated.
My boss edits footage in AVID xpress pro and was saving it as a QT mpv file that I would bring into Adobe Encore, I would transcode using the 7mb VBR 2 pass setting,
author, preview and everything looks great. I would burn and then we would see dropped frames when viewing the DVD.
Then we tried authoring the DVD on the same computer that the AVID is on, using QT reference files. Previews great in Encore...burn the DVD and now there are horizontal
'pulls' over the image.
Right now we're trying out bringing the QT file into Adobe After Effects and importing the AE .avi file into Encore. I know that this is crazy but we're just at the point where we'll try anything.
I've seen the following workflow posted and I really need more details on settings:
xpress pro > QT Ref > Cinema Craft ( or Squeeze) > MPEG-2 > Encore
I have to explain to my boss how to do this in the AVID without any real background experience working in AVID (no pressure eh?) My job depends on being able to put things to DVD and after 5 full days of on the job troubleshooting, I'd better find a solution soon.
Would love to be able to just work from the uncompressed .avi files, but they're just too big, many of the projects that we work on have multiple files over 30 minutes long.
On the flip side of things I am trying my best to troubleshoot Encore. Today I'm going to try writing the DVD to the HD and hope that this might work.
I am so open to suggestions right now!

Let's go back a step. After compiling the QT version in Encore, what happens if you play back the DVD using a software player (e.g. PowerDVD) from the HDD BEFORE burning ?
Can you post a screen shot of this 'pulling' ? Is it a tear, similar to what you see when vertical syncing is turned off ? or a comb effect ?
If you can get the QT into AE, why not simply output as mpeg2 using the built-in mainconcept mpeg encoder that ships with AE (assuming facts not in eveidence - do you have AE6.5 ?) ?Read my blog here.
