I've actually had this happen once. I use Musicmatch and windows media player as my main players. Musicmatch is set to default when a cd is loaded. BUT I started using wmp to rip to wma for my mp3 player. Both apps started simultaneously and wmp was ripping and musicmatch was playing!!
How is it possible for two seperate apps to access the same area on a cd simultanously??
