I downloaded a TV show that says it is in HD and 5.1. I have an HDTV. If I burn this to a DVD, will I get HD and 5.1 on the TV? Thanks

No. You will not get HD if burning as a DVD Video. DVD is 720 X 480 pixels (NTSC) or 720 X 576 pixels (PAL) which is standard definition.
If burning as Data, then you will. -
you will get the 5.1 audio but not any hd screen size/resolution. dvd only supports 720x576/720x480.
buy/build a htpc or get a standalone player with divx, xvid, wmv and ts hd support.
