  1. Hi, i been looking around and trying different programs, but none seem to do what i want it to. Or maybe I just don't know what to do with those programs. But i what i been wanting to do is I have a WMA and sometime AVI files, that i want to convert to AVI, or whatever other format, but i want to make the video clear or have better quality. And i can't seem to find a way to do that. I been reading alot, but nothing really point me in that direction. So anyone recommend a tutorial or good programs that can do that. I tried TMPEGNC, but when i do it, its gets me in black and white and the video doesn't even fit the screen. Little cutted in half or less.

    Thanks a lot.

If you start with poor source then there are limits to what you can do to make it better. If it has been over compressed, as a lot of downloaded material has, then you will have compression artifacts, pulsing and blurring in your source. While you might be able to smooth some of this with filters (the MSU Deblocking filter for Virtualdub, for example), it usually comes at a cost of detail. If you want good quality, stop downloading and start buying.

As for tmpgenc, if you look in the How To section you will find many guides for this encoder, as it is pretty popular. Follow them, learn from them, and most of your problems will disappear.

I *think* what he's trying to point out is that you can't just run a video through some mystical "video-make-better" software and automagically turn it from your typical AVI you might find on the net (which has been optimised for speed of download more often than not) into DVD-quality. Of course he assumed you've downloaded these AVIs and not made them yourself from capping or whatever. Since you say homemade music videos, I assume you've capped these from VHS / TV / Camcorder ?

You can do some wonderful things with filters using virtualdub and/or AVISynth, but the scale of overall improvement really depends on the original quality and particulars of your source.

Without seeing a screen to display the typical quality you have now, it is kinda hard to recommend anything specific you can do based on what you've told us, apart from a sharpen (which should make your video "crisper"). "Make better quality" is all good and well, but what's wrong with the quality ATM ? You (we) gotta know what's wrong with the source before recommending any avenues to improve it.
    If in doubt, Google it.
