    Hey all
Let me say, Ive spent well over an hour and thirty minutes reading thread after thread to get this thing to work . Ok heres the rundown of what Im Im trying to accomplish.

    1. Im trying to get about 7 hours (about 13 cdr's each 30 minutes) of vcd to one dvdr.
    2. Im trying to do this by using the svcd2dvdmpg as the program to convert to mpeg2.
    3. Now my dvd authoring program is sonic foundry dvd architect 1.0.
I will dump this authoring program if needed, for a free one of course that is compatible.

Now I read that svcd2dvdmpg can make the mpg's 1st header to dvd compliant file, which fools the dvd authoring software into thinking its the right kind of video input and doesnt render the vid. I guess Ive done this the wrong way. How can I accomplish my 7 hours of video to one dvdr dilema?
Please be gentle, Im very new to this kind of thing.

vcd (352x240, mpg1) video is already DVD compliant, so it doesn't need to be re-encoded to mpeg2. Try authoring to an RW with the files as-is and try it in your player. If it works, your done. If not then the problem is probably that the audio needs to be converted to 48khz (this is DVD standard, but some players will play the vcd file as is).

Not sure what you mean, dont I have to run it through svcd2dvdmpg? so DVD architect 1.0 will not render it.

Can you tell me what I must do with svcd2dvdmpg so dvdarchitect 1.0 can accept it.

    A Picture for reference.

  5. I highly recommend spending the small amount of cash to get the registered version 2 of SVCD. Only US$20 and you get a great program, simple to use, and the author offers great support.

After all the effort you've expended, you won't be disappointed with the results. With this version, you just load the assets as you want them, make a menu if needed, start the process and burn your authored files when done. Couldn't be easier.

In theory, you can put as much footage as you want on a DVD - it's all about bitrate. Of course, quality standards dictate that you probably wouldn't want to put all 17 VCDs onto a SL DVDR though.

If these are true VCDs (and not XVCDs) then you'll find that you can easily fit 7 hours VCD footage onto a SL DVDR without altering the quality one iota. Since you have 17 hours worth, it is also possible you could fit 8 hours worth onto 1 and 9 hours worth onto another, deliberately authoring oversize, and then running them through a transcoder to pull them down to size. OTOH, you could always re-encode to forcibly make a certain number of episodes fit a disc.

There's certainly plenty of different scenarios depending on what you have.
My question is how do I accomplish this task of getting so many hours onto a single layer dvd. Correct my procedures if they are wrong.

    1. I first put my vcd's into my drive and use isobuster to make them into mpg's.
    2. After step one Im pretty much lost because Im not familiar with svcd2dvdmpg.
    3. My new authoring software is ulead dvd movie factory 2

I guess that sums it up.

  8. First, see my previous post and follow the link. Read the guide and author your DVD, everything you need is in the guide.

If you author an oversize DVD, as jimmalenko said, use a transcoder (dvdshrink, etc.) to make it fit on a single layer DVDR.

If this still confuses you, spring for the full SVCD2DVD package and eliminate the hard part.

Ok then. Thanks buddy I'll give this a shot. Now when starting svcd2dvdmpg, what is the setting I must use so ulead dvd movie factory will not encode the video.

Nevermind it worked thanks for the help, really appreciate it.

Ps. Will dvd lab pro 1.53 accept the mpg's with the header? Seems like a better program.
