  1. i have have dazzle dvc-pp that i have used with a camcorder for a web cam on my web site for a while.
the problem is it only runs on win 98 and win me.

i just picked up a dvc-usb form ebay hoping it would work with xp but i have had no luck getting it to run on my xp system.
it shows up fine in device manager. but MovieStar 4.25 will lock up when trying to detect the hardware.
i may have the wrong software for the dvc-usb.
or it really will not work with xp..

if that is the case i would love to find a similar device that will be detected as a web cam from any web cam software software with good win 2000 and xp support.

does anyone have some recommendations for such a device?
i only need mpeg 1 support so i hope this would keep the cost down.

there must be some win xp usb capture devices out that let you use them as a web cam.

    Look over at www.labtec.com

You could try Labtec's webcam pro $34 bucks.
I purchased it at K-Mart some months ago. Nice quality
at 640 x 480 (max) resolution. And, has manual focus..
    a plus, IMO.

Works with: Windows 98 / ME / XP

..including my older win98x w/ no trouble.

  4. Best webcam is Sony's Eye Toy (~US$50) for the PS2. Hacked drivers are available to work with Windows.

  7. thanks guys but i was looking for a capture device that is seen as a web cam under xp or 2000. not a true web cam .
any camcorder works 100X better than the best webcams.

junkmalle: the sony eyetoy is a great cheap web cam with the right hacked drivers i got mine for $35 with a game used.
it has good video and a mic
still not good for my lake cam.

here is a link to my webcams.
clevelad ohio lake erie web cam. running on a win me amd laptop and a dazzle dvc-pp. updates every 2 min.

    set off by motion.

i use visiongs to run both cams.

    handyguy:

I can use my bt8xx card with a typical camera and used it as a web cam with various Messengers for a while... No problem and yes, that way the picture (and motion) was far better any web camera I ever used. But, web camera's are small and cheap and with the connections we have here in Greece, you don't need something more...
