I hope this an appropriate question for this forum, if not please let me know where to go. OK, I Know very little about DVDs and would like to record some movies I have on my computer (various formats) and be able to play them on my DVD player. Can I do this and if so how do I do it? Also the DVD player I have is far from "state of art" in fact it is an
el-cheap-o that I bought at a discount store. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Kurt

You will probably get a lot of different advise because you have a number of ways to do this. Assuming that you have a DVD burner in your computer, the software program Nero will allow you to do this in an easy to do way. You just select the option, "Make your own DVD video" and select the source files on your computer that you want to convert and it will do the job. As you gain more experience, you might study the huge amout of very useful information on this site and you may find ways that are better or that you prefer, but Nero is one easy way to start.

Thanks for the quick response!! I have Nero installed on my computer already so that is not a problem and as of this moment I donot have a DVD recorder in my computer, looking on buying one but again have no idea what is the best type to get and what features I need. I am trying to research all this before I go out and buy.

If it was that easy! If you have ideal source material ("some movies I have on my computer (various formats)" makes me believe not...) any "allinone" converter/athoring/burner app (like Nero) would do the trick. The reality is that mostly, each source requires a different treatment, and different tools.
Find out what your various file is using GSpot. Then look up a guide under CONVERT, ??? to DVD (or VCD/SVCD since you don't have a DVD burner) for that kind of file.

    Try them. Tweak the process.
