My friend used his dvd recorder to burn a vhs tape of mine to dvd. The problem is that neither my LG dvd player or my Philips DVD+_RW DVD8701 dvd burner on my pc will recognize the dvd's. Is there any software that I can get that would help or rip the dvd? When I insert it into my dvd-rom, I click on the D drive and it says insert a disc. I'm hoping there's some kind of software that can force my rom or burning drive to read this disc. I want to get the video from the dvd to my pc so I can burn it properly. I didn't keep the original vhs tape because I foolishly thought that it would definitely play. He burnt a couple dvd discs for me. Some are dvd+r and some are dvd-r. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like he did not finalize the discs.

This is what I am thinking. He is not 100% sure that he finalized the disc. He did finalize another disc though that has the same content on it. It is HIS disc of course. Tomorrow we're going to put it in my players and see what happens. I'll update the message tomorrow.

Okay, I tried a dvd he did burn on his dvd recorder and that was finalized and neither my dvd player or my pc dvd-rom read it. Any suggestions on what I can do? Is there another forum that would be better suited for my needs?

I know the Sansui has a choice of format and record as either DVD Video or DVD-VR. If you chose the latter it cannot be read in anything but a DVD-VR aware device such as the home recorder. See how he is formatting the DVD's.

Great, that was it. You rock...Thank you so much for the help. I'm going to have him record the content from the dvd-vr to a vhs tape and then back to a dvd video. Thanks so much for the help.
