    Hi.
I've just got the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250 to start copying my hi8 home movies I can capture ok from TV with sound but when I try with my Sony TRV78E hi8 cam I have no sound I have tried connecting via s-video lead and composite.
Do I have the wrong leads? Are there different s-video leads?
Maybe I have the settings all wrong? I am a total newbie to all this and not got a clue what settings to use

    DVD extra Long play
    DVD Long play
    DVD standard play
    MPEG2 12.0MBit/sec
    MPEG2 12.0MBit/sec (CBR)

There are so many options to choose not sure what is the best for me.
Do i need to setup the audio too?
All I want to do is copy and edit my home movies and burn them to DVD or VCD.

Please help and please write like your talking to a 5 year old lol

Did you make the audio connection? S-Video connections and composite (usually the yellow-coded RCA jack) only carry video signals. You will need to connect the left and right audio from your camcorder to your capture device.
