    I have a couple of .vob files. A) What can I use to make'm watchable (would like to turn'm to divx)? and b) if something like Divx converter would work, would it join 2 .vobs?

    You can open a vob in any dvd player software like powerdvd. Just use the "open dvd in harddrive mode" option.

    why dont know create a complaint DVD if they are already VOBs.

    Use IFOEdit to create the IFOs needed for creating a DVD. This way, you can watch it on your standalone dvd player.

    exactly as waheed said.
    you got vobs, that means you already have proper dvd-video files, just burn them as such. Why waste few hours for encoding to crappy divx if you can have real dvd-video in 10-20min? :O
