  1. If you use a satellite or get TV from the cable company all that comes into your house through a coax cable isn't that the worse cable to use as far as picture quality goes? Wouldn't that degrade the HD siginal coming in.

Another dumb question about HD. If you are watching a HD channel everything you see on that station would have to be taped in HD right? For example there is HD HBO some of the movies they show could be old so theres no way they could have been made in HD?

What's the best cable to use to hook up a HDTV for the pest picture? Are coax cables fine?

  2. Good quality coax is fine from the outside to the receiver as the signal hasn't been converted to viewable video yet. The best connections at this point are component cables. A decent set should cost $50-100. S-Video as the next best and coax is fine if you don't wear your corrective lenses when watching TV (they're bad!!). When I get a new video component, the coax goes from the freshly opened boxes right into the garbage.

As to your HD movie question. Just as an example, any movie that is currently on DVD could be broadcast as HD. DVD resolution is 480p which is much better than standard cable or digital cable resolution and quality.

svideo and composte cables are made from coax cable , so are component cables ... I think you mean rf type coax signal .

best (common) signals would be SDI , then DVI (HDCP) , then 5 wire rgb (note - could be better than dvi in some cases) , 4 wire rgb , 3wire rgb (sync on green) , TRIAX, YUV component 3 wire , svideo 2 wire (which btw is used in some studios not that long ago and can look very good) , composite , rf signal coax ..
