I have an older TV which has only a COAX jack. I am attempting to hookup a new DVD player. The video works but the audio is not coming through.

I've run the video through an RCA cable to my VCR and then though coax from the VCR to the TV. I have two RCA audio outputs (not component) on the DVD player but only one RCA audio input on the VCR. If I combine the two audio inputs into a sinlge audio input on the VCR will that solve my problem? If not, what will?

I'm not sure whether VCRs will pass the audio and video from the RCA cable input to the coax output of a VCR. You might try hooking the A/V cables from the DVD player to an RF Modulator, then hook a coaxial cable from the RF modulator to the TV's antenna input.

Probably not, as you should be getting at least one of the stereo channels to the VCR. You could get a RF modulator, but that would leave the VCR out of the loop, then your VCR wouldn't connect to the TV.

I would make sure your DVD player is outputting a audio signal first. (Plug it into a audio amplifier) Maybe you just have a bad RCA cable or there are some settings on either unit that need changing.

But a RCA 'Y' connector would give you both stereo channels combined to mono. But I would run the audio to a audio amplifier instead, as mono audio from a TV would be much inferior to stereo from a amplifier. Of course a surround sound amplifier and speaker system would be even better.

Another economy way would be a set of computer speakers with a stereo RCA to 1/8" phone stereo adapter. That should work on your DVD player output. As you probably already have a set, you can test it for the price of a adapter.

    And welcome to our forums.

  4. RF modulators have RCA and coax inputs, so the VCR and DVD can both be connected. There will usually be copy protection problems when connecting a DVD player through a VCR.

I've seen RF modulators that allow for multiple inputs and you can just select which one you want, so connecting the DVD player and VCR to this TV this way will work. Radio Shack is one store that sells this kind of device in the USA.
