i need to link up a laptop to my pc so i can take files from the laptop to the pc harddrive

If your PC has firewire, you can use firewire to transfer files. (Most laptops do have firewire, just check yours in case)
Or you can consider using a crossover cable for transfering files by setting up a network.
I would be useful to know the spec of your PC and Laptop, or more specifically what ports they have, so we know what options are available.
