hi, i'm abit slow when it comes to these things so please be patient

ive got a leadtek tv2000xp deluxe, and i have my vcr connected to the composite line, and the vcr audio to line in on the pc. I want to capture directly to xvid/divx.
When i start virtualdubmod to capture i run into a few problems.

    1. i cant capture in anything higher than 320x240(i remember a while back capturing much higher with the winfast pvr software). When i go full screen in media player, theres no black bars or anything.

    2. i have ffdshow installed, but it doesnt come up on the list, i had to install xvid codec seperately, is this right?

    3. there's only mpeg-3 audio, is this the same as mp3, as it only goes upto 56kbps.

    4. after a 10sec xvid/mpeg 3capture i get 4 dropped frames, but the file plays normally, is the capture meant to be smooth with dropped frames? If i capture to xvid/pcm 44.1khz 16bit stereo, no frames drop, is it impossible to capture with mp3 audio at same time?

theres a couple more which i cant remember at this time, but any help would be appreciated.
    Thankyou.

I think its the driver , its wdm , not vfw .

Vitualdub use's vfw drivers from many capture devices , and I have seen case's where it has managed to use wdm capture devices , but some drop frames , or lockup the pc eventually .

Asus vivo cards use wdm , but work without problems .

As for the size of capture , check the settings , go into record from vdub and test a few video size settings and output types , vdub will either complain or be fine .

Another issue is your screen resolution , before lauching vdub to capture , set your screen res down to either 800x600 or near too , then try capture .

I have seen issues due to screen resolutions , which is not well documented .

Try virtualvcr , it should be your best shot , from memmory it works fine with the device .

ive tried v-vcr, and i also couldnt go above 320x240.
I just reinstalled it now, and it now lets me go higher, so does vdubmod, but it still says 'error 418:unsupported video format' if i try and capture at 640x480, even though winfast pvr lets me capture(but it uses up 100cpu, so i guess it doesnt matter).

Just one question about vdubmod, if i want to crop an avi with the filter, and then do direct stream copy, it doesnt crop, is it supposed to?
yet cutting out sections of an avi and doing DSCopy, it turns out fine. is cropping harder or different?

    tia.
