  2. You probably can't. You usually have to use the software that comes with USB capture devices. Other software can't deal with them.

Does k-world dvd maker usb 2 even capture in HD, or is it a standard definition device ?

Edit : It can't. It has a max. resolution of 720 x 576 (PAL) or 720 x 480 (NTSC). All SD level stuff. If you want o capture in HD, you will need a much better piece of kit than anything from k-world.

And looking at your very vague computer details, probably something much faster that you currently have.

High quality comes from the codecs you use, the way you configure them, and the amount of power you have to support these settings.

High quality requires either very little compression (big files) or a very fast machine. The k-world device you are talking about can (according to it's website, anyway) encode directly to mpeg-1, mpeg-2 or mpeg-4 itself. If it can do this with it's own hardware then you will probably get better quality and smaller file sizes than you can get using virtualdub.

If you insist on using virtualdub for your own reasons, use a lossless codec such as huffyuv or lagarith (at around 30+ GB per hour), then re-encode afterwards using high quality settings. Generally the higher quality settings require 2-pass encoding, which cannot be done at capture time.

if you want more specific help, try providing some real details about what you are doing. Things such as

What resolution are you capturing at ?
    What is your source ?
What codec are you using ?
    What settings ?
What is you CPU (find this by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties - it will tell you on the main tab) ?
Perhaps even an explanation as to why it must be done in virtualdubmod
