you can rip to video and audio streams with dvd decrypter and then import those in pinnacle studio(if it supports it, if not join the video and audio to a mpg with tmpgenc->file->mpeg tools->multiplex). the dvd vob files are in mpg format.

  3. thanks. however, i'm having difficulties getting the decrypted files to run properly in TMPGEN.

let me tell you what i'm trying to do. i'm trying to edit "anchorman: unrated edition" w/ "wake up ron burgundy" (the rare exclusive disc). if you were going to do so with the programs i mentioned before how would you do so?

DVD --> AVI --> DVD seems a bit silly to me

Are you trying to just backup both onto a disc.
or are you after a menu on it as well?
if you simply want both on a disc you can rip the ISO (or files) with decrypter, and then in re-author mode load each set into Shrink (choosing only the main movie) and shirnkn will do its magic and presto you should have both on one disc.

  6. what i'm wanting to do is make my own cut of the movie. i'm not really wanting both movies in their entirety on one disc. that make any sense? if you saw both movies you would understand. so, how would someone technically savvy go about this? like i said i have dvd decrypter and pinnacle studio 8. if you aren't familiar w/ those what programs would you use/and how? again, all help/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

TDA will permit you to do this. Bring in the "DVD Video" (one per track) and use the editing capabilities of TDA to cut out what you don't want. If you end up having a DVD that's larger than DVD-5, let the authoring proceed and use DVD Shrink to shrink the result the last little bit.

There may be other apps that do the editing of the video a bit easier but, once you get used to the process, it goes very quickly.

  9. TDA just doesn't do what i want it to - it won't even open the vob files. i need a good editing program that will hold 2 full length movies simultaneously that i can edit into another timeline. (if there is such a program) from there i can figure out how to get it on dvd.

has anybody here ever made there own cut of a movie w/ different scenes from a seperate file? if so, that should also work for what i'm trying to do. i would need to have a program where i could break down the film into segments and then edit the small segments one at a time since the program probably couldn't hold the entire movie.

again, TDA is out of the picture. i couldn't get it to work properly and they were wanting me to pay for it w/o even knowing what the program was capable of. i also read a lot of bad reviews on the software. if anybody can see where i coming from here direct me to the right stuff. PLEASE!

  10. - last post

alright, new question. i think i'm starting to see the problem. i have mp2/ac3 files video/audio. duh! how can i edit those files while keeping the mp2/ac3 in sync. keep in mind i'm wanting to edit two separate full length movies into one movie that is my own cut of the film. i'm wanting to experiment w/ video editing and i thought this would be an easy way to start, boy was i wrong.

I have used DvdReMake Pro to import two movies, blank out scenes that I didn't want to use then I would save then to HD, I would then use eith Dvd2One (joining program) or Intervideo Copy 3 (Dvd Merge) both allow you to use different files (Vob files from two, three or even four different sources) and join them together. I did this when I backed up my delux copy of Band of Brothers. I used decrypter to place each one on HD, import with DvdRemake Pro (Blank out items I didn't want then save to HD). Then use Dvd2One or Intervideo Copy 3 to join the segments together. doom9 has a great guide on joining several different files to one DVD5 (single layer) if you have DL you can burn to DL disks (double the space for info.) I have also used shrink to cut parts from a movie and then save to HD and then use the DVD2One method of joining them together (NO COmpression to HD) then used Rebuilder Pro (CCE Basic encoder) to do the encode and rebuild with high quality! Works every time! Hope this helps!

  12. well i'm about to give up on my project. i bought intervideo and when i burned my somewhat finished movie (which was kind of an incoherent disater since i would also need to edit within the scenes) the movie burned the scenes into segments that you had to watch one at a time for every scene. it wasn't what i was expecting. i guess they just do not make a program for doing what i want to do. oh well, thanks for all the help.

Try Womble MPEG video wizard. Rip the files to the hard drive. Then open the first one up and cut it where you need to. You can even join and it works great! MPEG Video Wizard works great with VOB's. It exports the MPEG2 files without re-encoding. You can then create a menu or steal the menu from the original disc.

you should be able to use DVDShrink. it's not exactly "precise", but you can edit or 'clip' your dvd titles with it. you'd have to keep dragging the same title over to the left panel, then use the edit tool to reduce it to the part you want. depending on what you want to do though it may be a bit cumbersome, but no conversions!
