Hi there,
I bought a 4 - 4 pin firewire cable so I could capture directly to my laptop but the camcorder does not even register as new hardware, can't be found by Add New Hardware.....you know the drill.
Does anyone know of any reason (other than a faulty cable) why this doesnt work?
I'd appreciate any suggestions, I mean the damn thing cost ten euro!![]()

The 4pin connection works on my Sony Vaio running w98 or XP (SP1 or SP2) and Sony and Canon camcorders.
The IEEE-1394 port is handled by DirectX (more specifically DirectShow) under XP. Make sure DirectX is up to date and working. (see sytem info, then tools).
WinDV is a good test program for camcorder connection and data transfer. It operates DirectShow directly.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
