I have an xvid with reversed stereo channels that I would like to correct. I guess what I'm looking for is a quick, easy, idiotproof way to do this. Preferably with free software. If it can be done to the xvid all the better, but I have also converted the movie to mpg, and demuxed it into an .mpv and an .ac3 file if that helps. I'm pretty clueless on this stuff so I could use as much detail as you might be willing to give...

You should be able to to that with Audacity. It's freeware. How exactly to do it, I'm not sure, but it easily clones one channel to the other and can input and output WAV or MP3. Worth a try. Nice program also for simple audio editing or filtering.

AVISynth can do it pretty easily, you could then use avs2wav to decode to wav or pipe to say ffmpeg for encoding to AC3.
