  1. Can anyone recommend a good TV viewer type program? I have an ATI All In Wonder 9600 Pro card but the ATI Multimedia Center program really bytes. Just installed their latest version and its tempermental, slow, and crashes easily.

    Thanks for your input

I have an AIW 9600 and use the MMC version 9.0 without any problems at all. I watch and record using MMC without any crashes or dropped frames. I have cabled to television and watched the television through the MMC on the TV and it works fine. Maybe you could go back to a previous version of MMC. I am a little afraid to update the software. If it isn't broken, then don't F*** with it!!! I really haven't tried any other software for casual viewing. I also don't know if you would be able to perform mpeg2 captures with non-MMC software.

  3. At first I tried their latest version which is MMC 9.08. Then ATI Tech Support suggested that I install 9.06 but that didn't make any difference. I just thought there must be something else out there. I may just have to go back to 9.03 and hope that its performance is restored as it was.

    I have 9.02 working ok.

Before you reinstall ATI drivers and MMC, completely remove all old ATI files and registry entries.

If you like a TiVo type interface, try BeyondTV.

  6. Btw, doesn't XP have a TV tuner program? I thought Windows include such a feature.

I just had to go through all of this. I've reformatted my hard drive 2 or 3 times in the last two weeks over all this crap. My Ulead programs not working, ATI MMC hosing all up. 9.6 and 9.8 both crashing after over an hour of VHS capture. What a pain in the ass that is.

Anyway, uninstalled everything, find 9.2 and loaded it, and I can tell right away that it's a better program. Switching channels is faster, switching between S-video, coax, composite is much quicker, and all my Ulead stuff is still working.

Thanks for the replies in this thread. Certainly helped a frustrated fella over here out.

if you want a program specifically for scheduled recordings of tv you may want to give gbpvr a try. i use it to schedule movies and whatnot that come on when i'm not available to watch.

I use that feature in ATI's TV function to record on a schedule. It works fine.

If all you want to do is watch and not record. Dscaler is excellant. It has lots of filters you can use to get the picture to look just the way you want.
