  1. I have a dvd-minus-r disc that plays on my computer, but not on my Panasonic home dvd player (model RP62) connected to my television (a message came up saying "this type of disc cannot be played" - note I have never seen this message before or had my home dvd player not be able to play a dvd disc that could also play somewhere else).
I thought, wow, maybe this dvd-r disc (that I got from elsewhere) was authored in some weird old way incompatible with my home player.

So I converted the dvd to an mpeg2 file, about 4GB is size, and then re-authoured it using tmpgenc dvd author 1.6. I thought this would be foolproof, but to my shock, it still did not play in my home dvd player and the same "this type of disc cannot be played" error came up !! - I have never had a disc I myself authored with tmpgenc dvd author not play in my home player.

By elimination, the only remaining possibility that crossed my mind is that there is something in the actual video (and mpeg2 file, which plays fine on its own) causing this, ... but that should be impossible !! , so it's voodoo !

Does anyone have any ideas ?? What else can I try to convert this disc to one that will play on my home player ? What else might be causing this ?

Are you in NTSC land ? or PAL land ?

The only thing I could think of is if your DVD player cannot play whatever format is not native to your region. Load one of the VOBs (or the MPEG file you created) into the latest GSpot Beta (2.52 AFAIK) and see if you have the tell-tale signs - frame-rate and/or frame-size should tell you immediately if you've got PAL or NTSC.
    If in doubt, Google it.
