I have used to DVD Decrypter and have the VOB for an X-Files ep in Virtualdub. Ultimately I am going to resize the file, save it uncompressed (huffy) and load it into another app to convert.

Anyway, the audio is way out of sync! When I play it at 29.97 in VD, the video plays back fast - I assume this is because the video is actually 23.97.

I've tried forcing 29.97 and 23.97 from within VD, but it just won't sync.

What can i do? I spent all night trying to solve it and probably 4 hours hunting around online and in forums and have yet to find the solution.

I take it that the audio is AC3?

you can try demuxing the audio and video, fixing the audio with an AC3 delay correcter, see the tools section, and remux it back together again.

What version of virtualdub are you using?

FWIW, I think only the very latest versions actually allow something to avoid this (field issues, from what I remember).

This is one of the major reasons why conversion utilities like AutoGK and AVI.NET exist.

  4. Describe more completely the out-of-synch (OOS) condition. Is it out by the same amount throughout the film, or does it get progressively worse?
Have you tried playing the file with software specifically designed for playback, such as PowerDVD or WinDVD?

Describe more completely the characteristics of the film. Do not guess, check the file properties in Vdub or DVD2avi or some such. What is the Frame Rate, resolution, Pulldown flag status, audio type?

Have you read the extensive and very complete sticky about loosing audio synch?

  5. Why are you testing the synch in VDub? What happens when you play the vob in a regular software player?
