  1. Hello everyone

I have a Digital Media Player (a wireless box that lets me play media on my main tv by accessing the media files on my PC)

It can play DVDs & VOB files but due to my setup, it can't play digital sound (DTS/DD) but will play Analog Sound like AC3....

What i want is a program/method that will convert my DVD/VOB files into AC3 - But still keeping a very high picture/audio quality (I know i will lose the 5.1)

I have tried a few DVD to avi programs but the end result is poor (lip sync issues, poor sound etc)

    Any ideas please....

    Thanks

All audio is digital these days. Last trace of analog audio was the vinyl record, and compact cassettes...
So, what you want to do, is replace the DTS audio with AC3 audio (which well can be 5.1!) I find it hard to believe that you have DVD with only DTS/DD audio?!?
Anyhow, look on DTS/DD to AC3 conversion if you really have to do this. You then have to reauthor with your new audio.

  3. The Digital Media Player I have (Showcenter 1000) has 3 audio outputs, coax, optical & RCA, but it will only transmit DolbyD on the digital coax & optical... but my amp only has RCA, thats the only way i can connect the audio, so i need too convert the audio on my dvds to AC3, so that i can get a audio signal when watching dvds... (hope that makes sence)

Just connect RCA out from Showcenter to RCA in on your amp.

  5. thats the way it is connected... the sound on 'homemade' dvds plays fine, its just dvds with DTS & DD soundtracks. I've read up on the Showcenter Forum and all i need to do is convert the sound into AC3. I just wondered is there was a simple program avalilbe to do this...

AC3 is Dolby Digital (or DD as you call it). All compliant DVD playback devices must be able to down convert AC3 to stereo analogue output (your RCA jacks). DTS, as an optional audio format, is only available through digital connection, and very few playback devices have built-in decoders.

So let's make sure we have our terminology and formats correct. I can believe that you can't get DTS without using a digital connection (either optical or coax), but AC3 should output through your RCA jacks, albeit at a reduced channel number and therefore quality.

If you are talking about MP3 audio then that is a different matter altogether, as you can't use MP3 audio with DVD files. If this is what you are after you need to look into tools that can convert your DVDs to another format, such as Xvid or Divx, with MP3 audio tracks. You can do this by clicking on the Tools button (on your left) and searching for DVD to AVI tools.

Dolby Digital (DD) is AC3 already.

As guns1inger pointed out, your DVD player should be able to downsample 5.1ch DD to 2.0 ch.

Just FWIW, I would have thought that your amp could accept higher quality sources than just RCA jacks, as that cuts out quite a lot of the quality benefits of DTS or 5.1 DD before it even hits the amp.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. Please remember, I'm not talking about a DVD player, but a Wireless Digital Media Player....

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/publicsite/uk/Products/Consumer+Products/Digital+Media+Adap...nter+1000g.htm

This access VOB/DVD files of my PC and wirelessly transfers the files to the Media Player...

I've read up a little on their forum about this issue

  9. Ahh, i see, i think i just found the answer to my own question... and its gonna cost me £3.50.... how Cheeky!!!!!!!

It seems if i want to play DD via the RCA cables, then I have to pay DD (see 2nd link on my last post) BUT if i connect via Optical cable then its free. (but the cable will cost me £10+)

    Very strange, so do I

a, convert my DVDs and audio tracks
b, purchess the 'rights' to have DD on this system... (go figure!!)
    c, buy an optical cable

what a bunch of crooks .....

you got to pay extra to turn on the analog outputs -- which by the way only costs them about 35cents ... but they charge you good ....

By default, the analog audio outputs will *not* have any signal when playing Dolby(R) Digital movies. This is due to Dolby(R) decoding licensing restrictions.

However, a paid activation will enable the analog audio outputs to carry a stereo version of Dolby(R) Digital soundtracks. Please select "Options" - "Activate Dolby Digital soundtracks on analog audio outputs" in the Pinnacle ShowCenter program group to purchase the option.

otherwise as you have noticed - you would have to convert ALL your media / dvds to lpcm uncompressed audio stereo - and also in some cases have to re-encode the video ...

so pay those crooks , but tell them that is bull sh*t ... they KNOW you are going to have to pay ... and it would have cost them next to nothing (as like ALL dvd players)

If you have the time, sure. If your collection is any more than 5 DVDs though, it could get quite tedious .....

IMHO that is pretty ordinary, and would be a feature I would've thought should be enabled/configured out of the box.

That's no good for you. You said before your amp can't take optical inputs ?????
    If in doubt, Google it.
