Bought a cheap DVD recorder about 2 weeks ago and it didn't record my schedule recording. I promptly return it for a full refund.

Then I got a LG. Good machine and support Divx too. But when I turn off the power, all my schedule recordings are gone and so as the clock.
I will return this one too.

Is there any DVD recorder that retain the clock and the schedule recording after I switch off. 8)

Thanks in advance for your reply.

  2. They should all do that but if you disconnect the power, they often won't keep your settings. My panasonic does tho.

Even when VCRs were more prevalent, that was a problem. Some units have a 'Standby' switch instead of or in addition to 'Off'. That way the unit is not off and retains the schedule settings. Either way, the settings should be maintained. You might check the recorder manual and see what they recommend.

The cheap DVD recorder that I got first was able to retain all my schedule recording even if it's power off for a day. But not the clock. That's OK as the clock is easy to setup but not the schedule recodring as I have a long list. Just too bad that it's not reliable as it sometime fail to wake up from standby for schedule recording.

  5. well so far the Pioneer 531h is working great from the TV Guide for recording form OTA. OF course it is a bit pricey ($337 @ Walmart). But recording to the 80Gb hdd and then editing and burning works really well. a Poor mans Tivo (Which |I own too) in that it has a weaker search, and no wishlists or suggestions. OTOH it also has no Mothly fee or lifetime subscription $ either.

    Good Luck

My VCRs do this too. Only my more expensive JVC units with batteries in them keep the time.

Thanks. I think I will let go on standby 24x7. Cheaper to pay for the utility bill than getting an expensive model.

  8. The JVC DR-MH30 has a stand-by mode and a "power off" mode. The latter is almost equal to unplugging it and it takes some time for the unit to wake up again. But it remembers settings and timerprograms.

    @Stampe,
Thanks. What about clock after "power off" ? Does it need reseting ?

    Nope.

And by remembering timerprograms I meant that it will also wake up and record a timeprogram when in power off mode.

    Unpluging from the outlet.

I notice that some "generic" DVD recorders(non brand name) does retain the clock setting and all the schedule recording programming. Better still, it even allow hard disk upgrade to higher capacity as part of it's feature.

Too bad, I am stuck with a LG set that does none of that.

  13. I just had some el.repair work done in my house and after some time that power was off, my recorder kept time setup as well as schedule setup. It is Pioneer DVR-630H-s.
