I am looking into buying the Pioneer DVR-220, but was hoping someone could answer a question before I do so.
I have a Dish Network DVR that I want to wire to this recorder but I have heard from different people that this recorder will not record a 16X9 source. So if I record something from say HBO that is in 16x9 will the dvd recorder record in 16x9 or convert it down?

The Pioneer 220 will properly record 16:9 via an S-video connection if that is the source. However, many cable and satellite boxes export 16:9 content as letterbox 4:3 via S-video so that is what the Pioneer records. Often, 16:9 is only output via component or other HD outputs and not via the 480i S-video jack.
