Hi,
I was wondering if anyone is working on dvdshrink. I think 3.2 is the last version. I love the program and I haven't really come up against stuff it can't do (I haven't bought too many new dvds so I don't have that wide of exposure to the new css stuff).
Is shrink dead or is it being continued? Would someone be able to take it over?
Thanks to anyone who knows.
Kevin

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I could be completely wrong, but I think I read somewhere in this forum that they guy who wrote it has shut up shop and is now working for NeroRecode. He hasn't made the code available (or sold it to NeroRecode) so there wont be any updates.
As I said think this is right but sure I'll be corrected otherwise :P

I'm curious. What needs to be updated with the program? What could be fixed, added, or removed ??

Hi,
Thanks e404pnf, that does sound vaguely familiar. That would be a shame.
ROF - well as I mentioned there are new css variants out there that some have trouble with using dvdshrink alone. I would like to use it for all dvds but I can always use dvddecrypter or dvdfabdecrypter (which I have yet had a need to download as the regular decrypter is still more than adequate).

I've never used shrink as a decrypting tool, only as a shrinking tool. That's why I don't see any reason to update it. The options and GUI works perfect for me. I thought maybe other people might want to offer some suggestions as to what could be "value added" to it. CSS is one option for certain.

There are other little things that many users could _wish_ for, but again, it is silly to do so... For example, many people have wished that DVDShrink had an option to let the user re-author, but still maintain one or more working menus. I could go on... But, why waste the time and energy "wishing" for what cannot be? Is it not wiser to focus on those programs which are still being updated and worked on?
Just my thoughts,

You should just use Shrink and be happy about it (free!) until you progress to the point where you actually *need* something it doesn't have. -
I think this is the official forum for DVDShrink if you didn't know about it:

The only very good feature to add in shrink would be to add the possibility to convert a pcm track to ac3 withotu having to demux and remix the dvd before shrinking.
Another good feature would be to convert ac3 5.1 to ac3 2.0 to recover a small amount of megabytes.
