Did anybody pick up the first set of ThunderCats today?
I'm a bit apprehensive about laying down the cash for this set...
Recent bad experiences with beloved childhood toons is making me a little skittish.

DangerMouse was so damn cool when I was little, but watching the recent DVD release put me to sleep...
G1 Transformers? Not good -- not necessarily bad, but still not good.
GI Joe is about the same as I remember it tho.

The box art sucks. The case art is decent. The menu art is alright.

The bonus features suck. I cannot believe they let the ever-fatter Wil Wheaton do some stupid "interview the fans" feature. What a ******* waste of space.

The episodes themselves are dirty transfers. Lots of grain, even a bit of chroma noise. What the hell did they use as source?

I bought this, and now I feel raped. Didn't even get lube. To pay $50 for a shitty transfer is really ridiculous.

WB is a bunch of bastards, they don't learn shit from all their pooptastic quality releases. This is toilet water compared to the champagne quality we got on Transformers and He-Man.

I'm seriously a bit pissed. I'd like to find the SOB that was in charge of this release and punch him in the balls.

Tell us what you really think
But i hear ya... seen other stuff like this happen and think, who the hell was in charge of this ?!?! I could have done 100 times better!!
    Just sad aint it!!!

Shit, im still gonna have to go pick it up tomorrow, it's gotta be better than the VHS versions floating around.

    @Xylob,
I remember when they first started to release battle of the planets/G-Force on dvd i was stoked!! I don't know how old you are but i think we sometimes remember things as being better when we were little than when we see it agian 20-30 years later 8)

yeh, I just got that from Netflix not long ago
i couldn't watch it -- halfway through the first ep, that shit was back in the envelope and ready to be mailed back
I got the ThunderCats at the top of my queue.....
sometimes nostalgia has a tendency to tint your memories rose, ya know?
i watched Transformers everyday when I was a kid and it fuckin' rocked, I rushed out to buy all the box-sets of G1 once they were all out. 20 years later, it ain't the same as it used to be....
hopefully my memories of ThunderCats will be less "tainted", for lack of a better term

About GI Joe, it was on Cartoon Network, late at night for a while. I only saw part of one episode, but it was just as great as I remember it, being a kid. It was the episode when Shipwreck got brainwashed and had a fake family. I actually shed a tear, when he saved his fake family, even after finding out that it was all part of Cobra's plan.

I just hope a remastered issue of Voltron comes out sometime. Just the lions, of course.

Voltron will probably never come out in the USA. But they released all of Lion in R4 Australia this summer (5 volumes), and Vehicle comes out this fall (2-3 volumes). From Madman Entertainment, and they did a really good job too.

Ya know... that is funny that they would not.... because quite a few years ago i was the manager of a KB Toy Works, and i remember when they re-relesed the original diecast "voltron lion force" robot by trendmasters.. same as the "godaikin" set, which i own both version's of and the "godaikin" lion set is worth a shitload of $$$ but yet they never released or plan on releasing the original lion series on dvd in the U.S.!!!
That is like more of an icon of a certain era than battle of the planets/G-Force/Gatchaman is in the U.S.!!! and they released alot of those episodes!!! what are these people thinking that are in charge of releasing these classics from our generations childhood :/

I don't know. Does one's brain still work correctly when one's head is firmly planted up one's ass? We can get box sets of some of the crappiest shows ever. But something popular from the 1980s? Oh no, forbid the thought! And when it comes to releasing their library, Warner Brothers is by far the worst company on the planet. Those people should all be fired.

Whoever oversaw the making of this Thundercats set should never be allowed to work with video for the rest of his life, nor even his children, the whole gene pool is contaminated. Blind, deaf, and stupid.

This DVD set has all kinds of flaws, and we're not talking nerdy nitpick things, we're talking about jittering video, VHS tracking glitches, audio tracks missing, etc. Not to mention the "bonus" feature is crap, and makes fun of the show, rather than act as a bonus to give any kind of in-depth look at it. Nobody even remotely related to the show is on the bonus.

All the major DVD sites have lodged complaints with WB, including DVDtalk.com and TVshowsonDVD.com. This was worse than the time WB released edited Tom and Jerry on the "uncut" edition DVD set.

were the SuperFriends sets worth a shit? I've been wanting them, but not if they're poorly done.
I have all 3 Batman TAS sets and the Superman TAS set and both are good, but those shows are also much newer and shouldn't require any restoration/TLC.

The DC comics stuff all, so far, appears to be well done.
