  1. I have a question about Macrovision with VHS tapes for recording to a DVD.

If I were to copy the tape to a blank casette tape and then took the copied tape to copy to a DVD, will that work to bypass the Macrovision?

If general I'd say no. Also, you'd be creating a second generation VHS tape, which unlike digital copies, degrades quality. There are devices and methods out there that will allow you to capture a VHS tape.

For example, I'm able to backup my son's Disney VHS tapes (which have macrovision) to DVD.

My capture method is to hook up a VCR via RCA to my Sony TRV-320 DV camera, which is hooked up to my PC via firewire. I've found that if the DV camera has not tape inserted then I'm able to passthrough and capture a VHS tape, even is it has macrovision). I then encode that capture to MPEG2, author to DVD and burn.

Because of the Macrovision, you would probably have a problem copying the orignal to a blank tape. Most (newer at least) VCRs will not copy a Macrovision protected tape without severe video distortion - that's the whole purpose of Macrovision.

    NO
If you want to transfer copy protected VHS tape [or?] to a DVD get an LightOn/Ilo [Ilo 04] it can be hacked go to www.ss3f.com and www.techolio.com check Guirurman instruction. IT WILL WORK.

You can buy Macrovision defeating devices to use to copy MV protected tapes. Sima makes some, as does faucetvideo. Or you could buy a TBC, which defeats MV as a by-product of stabilizing the video signal. TBC's are much more expensive, however.

  7. You can get all the devices out there. [I've been there]. None work as reliable as the LiteON/Ilo [With Hack]. Ilo is WalMart [the 04 not the o5] The 04 is made be Liteon.
The TBC will work [Most of the time] but has it's problems besides the cost.

  8. I have a dual tape VCR from Go Video probably ten years old that will copy macrovision tapes ( but why bother) also anything from Canapus will allow you to do the same

Does your GO Video unit strip MV at the play side Or does it ignore it at the recording.
Could you use it to play a MV protected tape into. say a Pioneer 420DVD recorder. and the result would be MV free.
I've seen some on ebay but they were more costly than a LiteOn and most were about 10 years old

  10. I threw out my old Go video that could copy macrovisioned tapes when one of the decks went bad, Remote was going too.

Anyhow it didn't strip the macrovision it just ignored it when copying.

    Cheers

Why is an intelligent man's vote, worth the same as an idiot's vote in a democratic election system.
