  1. Hi
    Kind of an unusual problem.....
I have Roxio EMC7.5. I used their component that burns data on CD's or DVD's. I created a Data Disc project and dragged all my jpegs into the project area. I clicked Burn, set my speed to 8x, verified that it recognized the CD and the CD Burner drive, and clicked Burn. It did, no error messages. I can even see the burn line on the underside of the CD-R.

I put the burned CD back into the CD drive, and Windows asks me what I want to do with my BLANK CD????? When I open up the CD drive, there is nothing there.

If I put the burned CD back into the CD drive again, but this time open up Roxio, then Creator Classic (program that burned the jpegs), it asks me if I want to import the data on the CD into the project area, I click YES and all the jpegs I just burned pour into the project area.

So, are they there or are they not there?

Note: I know my CD burner works as it burns fine using other programs. Also, when I tried this procedure using a DVD+R, it ALL worked fine, in other words, after burning onto the DVD, I opened the DVD Drive and all the jpegs were there.

So, any ideas why it's giving me a problem with just a CD-R?

    Thanks.

I haven't used version 7, but could it be that the disk hasn't been finalized?

  3. I'm burning these jpegs onto a CD simply for backup. I'm not burning them with the intention to watch on a dvd player. In Roxio, that is a whole other component feature, and yes i do finalize then. this is just a simple burn feature. thanks for your suggestion tho.

Sorry I don't have any other suggestions. I asked because I know that DVD-R's I record on a standalone DVD recorder are not recognized by any program on my computer unless the disk is finalized.

Sounds like you accidentally set up the disc to record as multi-session. This would allow for further burning, at the cost of complete readability/compatibility. Many of the simpler/EZconsumer-oriented apps (incl. Roxio) have the burns set this way by default. Another reason to avoid them.

For this disc, open up Creator Classic. "Import" the "past session". Add another file or 2 (could be dummy text files, whatever). Burn again. This time make sure it is closing the session and the disc, i.e. Finalizing/Fixating.
After that, it should be readable in most drives.

From here on out, make sure you're set up to record 1 session only--no Multi-session--and finalizing the disc every time. Have it be multi-session only when you want it to. This is usually when you want it to be packet-written like a floppy, or when you're doing incremental backups.
