  1. Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows if/how it's possible to watch DVDs in the Pal format on a laptop that I bought in the US.

  2. I don't think there will be a problem, PC's don't care what system is in use.

Only problem you might have is with the region of the drive or DVD, there are programs like DVD Genie to take care of that.

From some of the reports on this site, DVD Genie only works if the DVD drive is already region free, and so you just need to fool software, not hardware. You could try AnyDVD or DVD43 as a free option though.

  5. SO if I buy a DVD drive in Europe, there shouldn't be any problems with watching DVDs on an American computer?

Not if the DVD you buy is region free (rare).

Otherwise you need to make your playback software region free.

Remember that the system(pal or ntsc) has nothing to do with any region coding. Commercial dvds has region coding and pal are often region 2. Home burned dvds that are pal or ntsc are not region coded.
