  1. Hi,

A friend gave me his computer to clean it up for his kids.

I notice that the computer has 2 drives but only one is recognized by windows.

So I opened the case and saw that this drive was an SCSI.
I reboot Windows and saw that the SCSI card was not installed. I install the drivers and reboot. Win98 recognize the card and the drive as a "T. Yuden CD-W0 BW/EW-50" but in the Unknown devices so it's not displayed in explorer.

I try to find some drivers on the net and I found one on drivers.com

I install it but windows won't boot anymore. Only the spinning bar in the bottom of the screen is active. So I restart in safe mode to remove the cd driver (inf, vxd,...) and windows restarts without problem.

    This drive is old (1996).

So How can I make this drive recognized as a cd drive ???

  2. I would first try to contact your friend and ask if he ever had that scsi card and drive working on that computer with win98 prior to giving it to you. (maybe he knows or could help you)

If it shows up as unknown, there could many posibilities. Being it showed up as unknown it seems likely to not have the correct drivers either for the devices themselfs or the OS. It could also be they dont have the proper resources ie. IRQ and memory address.

Trouble shooting sucks and takes alot of trial and error. Being its an old drive, I personally would just get rid of it and get a new better drive (PnP), for as little as $20 now adays.

Did you install all the SCSI drivers? I've never had to install drivers for the individual drives. You are probably missing some system driver files. What SCSI card are you using?
