I'm new at this, but I think I know what I need to do. I want to capture video signal from a video splitter and display the video output (BNC connector) on a computer screen.
I can't use a video capture card because the computer (Dell SX280) doesn't have card slots. I don't have to worry about video capture, really: I just need a way of monitoring cameras while performing other computer tasks. I've got a dedicated computer (that's not well known to others) replete with video capture hardware and software.
I figure that I can hop over to my favorite computer store and pick up a USB video capture device to make it work (as long as it takes in analog input). But I need a sanity check. If I'm off base, what should I be doing? If so, then are there products I should be looking for or avoiding?

so basically you want the computer to act as a television that will accept an analog input?
seeing as how you dont need it for video capture purposes, basically you're just using the device to make your computer act like a tv.
pretty much any usb capture device should work, you should get a pretty decent picture.. the picture would probably be significatly degraded if you were to capture, but just displaying the content should be no problem at all.
